John Wilkes Booth: Actor/Assassin

As we celebrate the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, many people are unaware of the role that nepotism played in his death. Lincoln was assassinated at Ford’s Theatre in Washington because it was a regular performance venue of the prestigious Booth theatrical family, which included John Wilkes Booth, his father, his two brothers, and a sister-in-law. Booth’s parents instilled in their children a strong anti-authoritarian streak, naming John after distant relative and radical British politician John Wilkes. There’s also a family connection to more recent British politics. For more on the Booth family, including a rare photo of the three Booth brothers on stage together, click here.

Sharon Osbourne's Smackdown!

In January 2009, during the taping of the reunion special of VH1’s Rock of Love: Charm School, Sharon Osborne had a a physical altercation with a former contestant. The less than "charming" fight occured after perpetually bikini-clad cast member Megan Hauserman began hurling insults at Sharon, implying that she is only a celebrity because of her husband's celebrity status. Sharon responded by pouring a drink on Hauserman and allegedly pulling out half of her hair weave, among other minor injuries. A police report was subsequently filed by Hauserman, but the police did not file charges at the time. Apparently Hauserman is unaware that Sharon met Ozzy when his career was tanking, and that it was only after she stepped in to become his manager that his star began to rise again.
